• Vomiting and diarrhea. The main irritation caused by gluten arises in the intestine, so it will cause vomiting and diarrhea in the animal. This is not to say that a dog who has diarrhea or sometimes vomits has to be gluten intolerant. But if it happens repeatedly, it’s possible that’s the reason. • Itch.  If you notice your dog scratching his skin or anus too much, he may have an allergy to gluten, as it causes irritation to the skin.
• Difficulty breathing. This allergy can also cause irritation in the nasal passages and throat, making breathing difficult and causing inflammation, sneezing, and itching.
• Seizures. This is a serious allergy alert, so if you notice this happening to your dog, don’t hesitate to take him to the vet urgently.

As we mentioned before, there are hundreds of gluten-free dog foods in the market, although it seems that there aren’t that many options to choose from with the treats. However, there are specific brands that are completely dedicated to this and you can even get reasonably priced packages online.

However, if in the place where you live this is a difficult task for you, you can always make your own gluten-free treats for your dog. Check out this simple recipe:

• a cup and a half of rice
• 1 grated potato
• a grated carrot
• 1 chopped celery stalk
• 250g of ground beef
• 4 eggs
• 2 tablespoons of olive oil
• 3/4 cup of quinoa

All you need to do is cook the rice with the potato, grate it and mix it with the rest of the ingredients. Sprinkle a little olive oil and place in the oven for 45 minutes at 174 °C.
