Signs That Your Cat Is Actually A Dog

Signs that your cat is actually a dog

It is true that cats and dogs have behavior oriented both by the unequal domestication process and by the specific characteristics of each species. However, also because of human manipulation of a certain type of behavior,  some cats acquire behaviors that resemble their canine companions.

Whether they were raised with puppies since they were puppies or because they correspond to behaviors taught by their owners, we present here some signs for you to identify when your cat is, in fact, a dog.

Go out for a walk on a leash

Anyone who has ever had a cat as a pet knows how difficult it is to try to put anything on it (clothing, hats, etc). Unless this has been done  since they are puppies, even brushing them is a real battle, which usually the cat ends up winning.

So it may seem surprising that some cat owners actually manage to put them on a leash and take them for a walk.

What’s more, some people even manage to get their cats to schedule their needs with these walks, which is admirable, knowing how independent and apathetic cats can get.

The magic of this seems to be in making the activity something the cat actually wants to do and rewarding you for it, otherwise there won’t be any person able to get you to move around with the collar around your neck.

Collect objects that their owners throw at them

Probably the most fun game, and through which the bonds between owners and dogs are strengthened, is playing the ball. Dogs exercise while having fun chasing, collecting and handing back to their owner a ball or any other object that their owner has thrown at them.

However, playing with a cat is a little different, in general, you need to look for flashy toys with some kind of movement or sound that awaken your hunting instincts. So the point is not for them to play with you, but for you to offer them something they can hunt.

However, and contrary to what most people think, cats love balls. They love these slippery toys because they are perfect prey. So it won’t be difficult for your cat to want to chase a ball. What’s really tricky is that cat wants to return it, after having captured it.

That’s because, for him, it’s as if he has to hand over the prey he’s captured with so much effort. So the first thing he’ll do is run to find a place where he can calmly tear her apart.

Interestingly, there are people and cats (this will depend, in part, on the breed) that manage to overcome this instinct, making the cat return the object, so that they throw it to him again.

watch the door

Something very curious that I have observed in some cats is that they  watch the front door of the house. This behavior is even stranger when the cat actually warns its owners that someone is outside.

Some keep watch at the windows or stand by the entrance to make sure everything is okay. Although it is not unusual to see a cat on a porch or window, what stands out in this behavior is the watchful attitude they adopt while doing so.

is always by your side

It’s true that having a cat as a pet can be quite lonely, but that’s not always a fact. Some cat breeds are, in fact, very attached to their owners, however, there is a myth that they do not enjoy human company as much, as they are very independent.

Although many think this is unusual, it is normal for some cats to develop a dependency on their owners, as dogs do; there are cases of cats that are literally inseparable from their human companions.

This is more common in cats that have no contact with the outside world other than people or animals that visit their home. Such cats form such strong bonds with their owners that they experience separation anxiety when the owner is away.

Now you know, some cats can adopt characteristics more like a dog. So keep an eye out, you can have a cat without even realizing it.
